Middle Caicos
Middle Caicos, one half of the "twin islands" of Turks and Caicos, comprises three settlements: Conch Bar, Lorimers, and Bambarra. Bambarra, founded in 1842 by survivors of the shipwreck of the Gambia, a Spanish slave ship, derives its name from the Bamberra people of West Africa. The island boasts some of the Caribbean's largest limestone cave systems, with extensive underground networks connecting to the ocean. Middle Caicos offers a secluded getaway for outdoor enthusiasts, providing opportunities for hiking, biking, and Hobie tandem kayak fishing. It is renowned for daytime activities like exploring caves and natural sites, making it an ideal destination for those seeking adventure away from the crowds and nightlife, which is better found in Providenciales.
